With only a weekend left of our Christmas Break, we decided to make good on our New Years Resolutions and take a spontaneous trip to Salt Lake with the kids. Ice Skating at the Gallivan Center seemed like the perfect winter activity in the city.
Mino ice skating had me on high alert. It's not exactly an easy thing to do combined with a naturally accident prone kid. Bless his little heart. He took some nasty spills but never gave up.
Randy and I took turns helping Sam around the rink.
Hank was cautious but got the hang of it pretty quick. He had no problem holding onto my hand for balance. I loved every minute of it.
All in all a successful outing. We stayed at a nearby hotel downtown with a gigantic hot tub.
Just what we needed after a freezing cold ice skating session.
After we were sufficiently warm, we headed to dinner at Squatters.
Sam kept himself entertained with his napkin and utensils.
Max had a serious case of the giggles. Perhaps it was the giant chocolate cake he ate.
Perhaps the smartest thing Randy and I have ever done as parents was get an adjoining room for the kids.
So genius. In fact I got enough rest that I was able to hit the hotel gym before everyone woke up.
Sam joined me for an early continental breakfast.
Max made sure he got the most out of his free breakfast. How many carbs in that spread?
We had time for another dip in the hot tub and pool before it was time to check out.
It was a short but sweet little adventure. Grandpa Griff was kind enough to watch Griffy for us while we were away. The kids couldn't wait to pick him up on our way home! Back to school tomorrow.
