After we had so much success fundraising for JDRF this year, we were invited to attend an awards dinner. They honored all the teams who worked so hard to make it possible for the Utah County chapter to raise $170,000 this year. We won several awards for raising over 4,000.00. We were one of the top fundraisers! I'm also really proud of our best t-shirt honor. I guess technically we got 3rd place but compared to the other teams, we were the clear cut winner, in my opinion.
It was so great to have my mom and dad, as well as Jeri and Scott there with us. They have been such a huge support to us. I could see my dad's wheels turning about how to raise more money. I'm motivated to hit the fundraising even harder next year. It was such an incredible night. I'm so grateful to know some of these families a little better now. I know my involvement will just continue to be more and more as the years go on.
November 14th was World Diabetes Day and we attended an event at the State Capital to honor that day. I wasn't prepared for how emotional it would be. We were lucky to see a newly released documentary called "Sugar Babies". Watching these families dealing with their newly diagnosed diabetics reminded me of when Hank was diagnosed over 2 1/2 years ago. I just hate to see these kids struggling with this terrible disease. Most days I keep my head up and deal with the ups and downs that come with being a mother of a diabetic but on this particular day, I was overwhelmed with sadness for Hank. This is why I'm so passionate about raising funds to help find a cure.
Unfortunately I was the only one in our family so deeply touched. The next picture depicts that quite perfectly.
Hank was bored out of his mind, Sam was being a typical 2 year old, and Max made a make shift gun out of a pen and then decided to run away from us. Not to mention, in the middle of it all, we lost Hank's blood sugar tester. Some days it feels like the universe hates me. After a good cry and a nap I was able to face the day again. Oh, and someone found Hank's tester so I guess the universe doesn't hate me after all!
