Oh City League basketball, why must you come into our lives every year? Each game that passes I'm grateful Randy escaped uninjured....until Monday night. It was a typical night of city league madness, lots of hard fouls, technicals, people getting thrown out, bad refs etc. Randy kept his cool through it all and the game ended up going into overtime. As Randy took the ball down the court, he took one step forward and dropped to the ground holding his ankle. No one was around him so I was confused as to what happened but he was obviously in agony. He hopped to the bench and luckily his dad was there to catch him as he passed out (I'm guessing from the intense pain he was in). He knew right away his achilles tendon was snapped. He heard a popping sound and said it felt like someone shot him in the back of the leg. We rushed him to the hospital and the doctor confirmed what Randy already knew. After an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon today and an MRI, it is clear he completely severed his achilles tendon. Surgery will be Friday morning and the doctor is very optomistic he will be able to resume athletic activity soon. In fact, he said he would be able to make it stronger than before. He's looking at about 10 weeks of different casts and walking boots before he can walk normally. I think it's safe to say Randy is retiring his city league jersey for good now. The kids aren't sure what to do when dad is unable to wrestle and do all the things he normally does with them. Hank has been extremely helpful, where Max is taking out his frustrations in the form of tantrums and other mischievious behavior. They still want to be around him constantly as you can see.

Oh Annie (and Randy!) I am so sorry! That is a hard injury to take. You don't just bounce back...it takes some time to heal. Good luck with the surgery. We will be thinking about you. It definitely will be hard on the boys to see their dad down...good luck with that! Wish I could help tend them :(
Oh thank you. Just what my eyes needed at 7:27 am.
I may or may not be having a hard time remembering the movie Troy....guess I better watch it again.......
Hope Hank's achilles is better this morning!
that's horrible!!!!!! my dad did the exact same thing playing church basketball... i remember how terrible it was. so sorry randy. poor thing.
City league won't be the same without Randy! Let me know if you guys need anything!
Oh that sucks! Im sorry. But thank you for the picture at the first of your blog. I had a hard time scrolling down to see what you wrote. I was to distracted by the fantastic picture.
Oh no, that is terrible!! Poor Randy. That sounds so painful. I'm so glad Jason isn't playing city league basketball anymore. It was either an injury or a fight every time. Yuck. Good luck tomorrow with the surgery!! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that!! And thanks for the picture of Brad. Wow, those arms....
I miss one day on the internet and I am 7th! What an outrage.
Poor Randy! That sucks. It kinda makes me nauseous thinking about the pain that he must have felt. Slash jealous that he gets to have a cast and probably a cool boot. I always wanted one. Is that weird? Yeah it probably is.
I am glad that Hank of course is being his most tender self. He most likely has a career as some kinda brilliant surgeon.
How awful, so sorry to hear that! Hope the recovery isn't too bad. I think I'll skip Troy, I think I can guess what happens!
I think Robyn should come and tend the boys, what's with her?
xo
I'm sorry. Did you say something happened to Randy? I'm still cleaning drool off my keyboard. :) Good luck being "Nurse Annie" for the next little while. Call me if you need me.
Poor Randy dang it! But the cutest moment- in this entire awful situation - was when I was helping Hank get dressed today (day of surgery. His leg was wrapped with an ace bandage. I asked what happened and he said he hurt his leg. Ohhh sympathy pains from a son - what is sweeter!!
