My Incredible Hank

It's been a little while since I've mentioned the 6th member of our family.  Most of the time, we carry on with the beast that is diabetes with a smile on our face, but some days it just plain sucks.  It's a non-stop worry for me but when we have a day like this one, I feel like throwing in the towel.  We just got a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) which gives us an idea of what Hank's blood is doing all the time.  There are definite perks to this device but it also makes me painfully aware of just how poorly I manage this disease some days.

For example...off the charts highs followed by continuous lows all night.  This particular night, I had to wake Hank up 3 times to give him sugar.  Damn this stupid disease.  My heart just breaks for Hank.  His dedication to doing the things he loves, despite it all, gives me the strength to carry on.  I will do whatever it takes to keep him happy and healthy.

He's just started basketball which means his 5:50 am practice times are in full swing.  I'm so happy to have my gym buddy back!  He may be sleepy but he always gets up and makes it to practice.

It gives me no excuse to miss my workouts.  I can attend a class while he practices, win win.

I'm just so proud of him, I can't resist taking his pic.  He loves it as you can tell.  I told him to get used to it.  Having me as his mom is great practice for when he's famous one day and followed by the paparazzi.

Everyday he wakes up and puts his basketball shoes on is like giving diabetes the bird.  Hank is unstoppable, no matter what obstacles this disease throws his way,
