Randy and James treated their employee's to a trip to Lake Powell last week. Our trip began a day earlier at James and Darcelle's home in Cedar City. These two and their SUU shirts. They have been able to navigate a best friendship as well as a business partnership better than anyone I know.
James set up a sweet sound system in his back yard and Sam loved showing us his moves.
We needed to make a quick trip to the gas station to get treats for our outdoor movie. We got the back road tour of Cedar in James' new razor.
We watched Zootopia under the stars.
The Bromley's sure know how to host. We felt so at home and comfortable. Our kids get along so well.
Before we met the rest of the JRI crew in Panguitch, Sam and I stopped by the instacare in Cedar to make sure he didn't have a urinary infection. The doc gave us the all clear and off we went.
Speaking of urine, my two diabetics were running high and needed an emergency pee stop on the side of the road.
That can't be comfortable.
After meeting everyone and having lunch we headed to the slot canyons just outside Lake Powell. Mind you it was 103 degrees. I kept thinking, the canyons must be really shaded, why else would we attempt a hike in this heat?
We were all in great spirits at the trail head having no clue what the next 3 hours would have in store for us. We figured it was a couple mile hike, not strenuous. Boy did we estimate wrong.
I'm not sure if our fearless leaders planned this on purpose as a bonding experience or if they just failed to plan. We were dying of heat with very little water when we realized it was a much further hike than we had planned on.
We forged on and the kids really impressed me with how they handled a pretty unpleasant situation.
Hank and James were deep in discussion about something.
And Mino did his own thing.
It wasn't all bad. The slot canyons were spectacular.
I'm not going to dwell on how horribly wrong this hike could've gone. Instead, I'll marvel at how we all made it through a very hard thing together. I'm so impressed with the people Randy and James have chosen to work with every day. They have their backs 100% and never complained once. Once we arrived in Page, we treated everyone to some delicious BBQ and settled into our sweet hotel. We upgraded to the suite, such a good call. After a good nights sleep we will be ready for the lake!!
